Grace & Manna sponsors blind young girl diagnosed with developmental cataract.
During one of our recent medical outreaches, something extraordinary happened. Although the event was designed strictly for adults, a young girl named Esther approached one of our doctors, Dr. Ayomide. Esther, a bright and hopeful child, had been battling blindness caused by an unknown condition.
While we had to gently turn away children to focus on adult patients, Dr. Ayomide couldn’t ignore the plea in Esther’s eyes. He saw more than her physical condition—he saw her hope and the resilience of a child longing for a brighter future.
A Compassionate Intervention
Dr. Ayomide spoke with Esther’s mother, who shared their story of struggle and heartbreak. The family had long given up hope of finding help for Esther. After seeking the mother’s permission, Dr. Ayomide recorded a video of Esther and sent it to Grace & Manna’s platform.
When one of our board members, Dr. Oyefusi, came across the video, he knew this was a call for action. He shared the story with the Grace & Manna board, and together, we made the decision to intervene.
Diagnosing the Problem
Esther was soon taken to a specialist doctor in Akure, Ondo State, where she was diagnosed with Developmental Cataracts—a condition where the lens of the eye becomes clouded during childhood, impairing vision and, if untreated, leading to blindness. This condition often develops gradually and can rob a child of the chance to experience the world fully.
A Path to Healing
Grace & Manna sponsored the first stage of Esther’s medical journey to determine the full scope of her condition. Now, we are committed to seeing this through.
We have pledged to support:
A Cardio Examination: A necessary step to ensure her heart is strong enough for surgery.
Cataract Surgery: A life-changing procedure to restore her sight and allow her to see the world clearly again.
Esther’s family, overwhelmed with gratitude, shared how they had given up hope that she would ever regain her vision.
A Mission of Love and Light
This story is a reminder of why we do what we do. Inspired by Luke 10:27—“Love your neighbor as yourself”—we at Grace & Manna are dedicated to bringing healing and hope to those who need it most. Esther’s journey is just one example of how compassion and community can change lives.
